Lost Canyon encloses the immediate site but also opens to the distant desert landscape. The house is composed as four carefully concieved vistas—each responding to the unique views. The southern exposure opens across the wide property and gives not just a view to the distant horizon but also forms a clear vista and a sense of security high above the roadway. The view descends allowing the house to hold a prominent position on the site but also its location on an upper elevation provides distant privacy. The east, north and western views are framed by the mountain range beyond; the northern and western ranges are receive the deep afternoon sun and form a brightly backdrop; witnessed from the quiet and expansive interior of the house.

Interior courtyards allow the strong desert light to be revealed on exterior walls. Witness to the desert light; one sees the stark contrast on bold saturated colors. The building's interiors are shaded from the light even as daily life is situated adjacent to it.

The afternoon sun; powerful but apart from the shaded room. Three private bedrooms open to their own internal private courtyards and each bedroom can be entered by a private interior vestibule and doorway. The bedrooms each have their own private courtyards; on a warm night one can enter the courtyard and then enter the bedroom—as if entering a small private cottage. The spaces can be furnished to extend the bedrooms into the outdoors but maintain privacy.

Public spaces in the house form a continuous landscape—the owner during the course of a day’s activities can move easily from living room to library; from office to gallery; from kitchen to breakfast space or to formal dining.
